The Afghanistan Journalists Center has announced that three journalists detained by the Taliban administration on charges of disseminating music and contacting female listeners in Khost province were released from detention after six days.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center, in a newsletter published on Sunday, April 28th, stated that these three journalists had been released after six days.
The center has welcomed the release of these journalists, adding that the continuation of such detentions undermines freedom of expression in Afghanistan entirely.
Local officials in Khost detained Ismail Saadat, a reporter for “Radio Naz,” Wahidullah Masoom, a reporter for “Radio Iqra,” and Ehsanullah Tassal, a reporter for “Radio Oolas,” last Monday.
Earlier, the Khost security command had banned radios from broadcasting music and making contact with female listeners.
According to the Journalists Center, these journalists have been warned that they will be prosecuted if they repeat the “violation.”
Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the group has oppressed free media and journalism, resulting in the restriction of female journalists. Consequently, over 80% of female journalists have lost their jobs.
