The “Afghanistan Polio-Free” organization recently announced that the polio vaccine campaign in various provinces of Afghanistan will commence tomorrow.
The organization stated on its social media platform X on Sunday, April 28th, that this campaign will begin nationwide on Monday.
According to the organization’s newsletter, children in this campaign will receive vaccines and vitamin A simultaneously.
Families are urged by this organization to vaccinate their children against the poliovirus to combat this virus effectively.
This campaign comes as Afghanistan and Pakistan remain the last countries where this virus still exists. It’s worth mentioning that this virus causes permanent paralysis and, in some cases, even death, but vaccinating children can prevent contracting this disease.
Polio remains endemic in Afghanistan, making it one of the last two countries in the world where the disease persists. Since the beginning of 2023, six children have been diagnosed with polio, all of them in Nangarhar Province, a region in the eastern part of the country.
