Abdul Rashid Iqbal, the president of Kabul Polytechnic University, says that the first international water conference by this university is scheduled to be held by the end of September this year.
Mr. Iqbal expressed these remarks on Monday during the tree-planting campaign program organized by the Polytechnic University.
He added, “We are planning to hold the first international water conference in the country in September this year, where neighboring and Western countries will participate.”
The tree-planting campaign is taking place while the president of the Polytechnic University expresses concern about severe water shortage for the students of this university.
He said, “We can only supply water to the students in the dormitories for about three hours during a twenty-four-hour period. Meanwhile, there are 6,000 students here, and 1,300 reside in dormitories.”
In the tree-planting campaign program, the Teal Office stated that they have planted over 50,000 saplings in various provinces, and this process continues.
In this program, Roza Autonbayeva, the head of the UN Deputy Office, was also present and stated that Afghanistan is affected by climate change, although it plays the least role. She promised continued cooperation to tackle climate change in the country.
She added, “Afghanistan is facing very severe climate change, and today we are here again. Your programs, international organizations, and the international community will make every effort to help your country in this regard.”
Meanwhile, citizens say that to institutionalize the culture of tree planting, people need to be more encouraged.
Azizullah, one of the students, says that after planting, saplings need nurturing, and all citizens are responsible for it.
Afghanistan ranks sixth among the countries affected by climate change, and interim government officials had previously announced a reduction in international aid in this regard.
