Five Chinese citizens were killed in an explosion in northwest Pakistan. It happened on Tuesday when their convoy was attacked by a suicide bomber, a senior police officer said.
The attacker drove a vehicle full of explosives into the convoy of Chinese engineers. These engineers were traveling from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu, a place in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
This information was shared by Mohammad Ali Gandapur, who leads the regional police, with the Reuters news agency.
“Five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver were killed in the attack,” Mohammad Ali Gandapur said, as reported by Reuters.
Dasu is an important area because it’s where a big dam is being built. Attacks have happened there before. In 2021, a bomb on a bus killed 13 people, including nine from China.
The police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa quickly arrived at the scene. They started helping the people who were hurt. Mohammad Ali Gandapur assured that everyone else in the convoy was safe.
As of now, no group has taken responsibility for the attack. However, since August 2021, there has been a rise in attacks on Pakistani officials and foreigners.
Pakistani authorities claim that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has been backed by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Kabul has denied these allegations.
