Delhi has reported 66 hospital fire incidents over the past two years, with 30 in 2022 and 36 in 2021. The latest fire on February 26 at Nayak Hospital highlighted the challenges firefighters face in evacuating patients. Fire officials, including Atul Garg, emphasized the complexity of evacuating patients, especially in children’s hospitals. Many hospitals lack adequate infrastructure, such as wider staircases and compartmentation for swift evacuation. A recent fire at a neonatal hospital in east Delhi resulted in the deaths of seven newborns, revealing serious regulatory and safety lapses. The hospital's owner and an on-duty doctor have been arrested.
