The Panchamasali community – a dominant subsect of the Lingayat community – has been in an uproar since before the assembly elections over its unfulfilled demand of getting included in the 2A reservation category, which would guarantee a 15% quota in government jobs and education. The former CM had raised the reservation share of the community right before the assembly polls last year, scrapping the 4% reservation given to Muslims under OBC. The decision, however, was challenged in the apex court, where the matter is still pending. Panchamasali mutt seers told ET the community was upset at the “inept” way the issue was handled.
