Rushall Olympic 4-0 Bishop’s Stortford Match Report
9/4/24
Vanarama National League North
Hamish Arnold
Both teams finished with 10 players as Rushall Olympic beat Bishop’s Stortford 4-0 on Tuesday night in Vanarama National League North. The three points moves the Pics up to 17th, three points above the relegation zone, while the Blues are rooted to the bottom 20 points. Lordon Akolbire and Ronan Maher saw red, both for two yellow cards.
The hosts went ahead inside the first minute, from a left wing corner that was taken short, the cross was cleared as far as Owen Farmer who fired into the top right corner from 20 yards. Maher shot wide with a low shot from the left side of the box, before Aaron Greene hooked a left wing cross from Farmer clear. Owen Oseni won the header from a right wing corner, but Jack Giddens claimed the high ball, before a lofted through ball from a throw in on the left was played through for Oseni, his first shot was saved by Giddens but the striker found the net from the rebound. Farmer rifled the ball over the bar from long range, and Maher miscued wide from a low shot from the left side of the box, after a smart turn in midfield to get away from two Stortford players. Giddens made a great save to deny a close range effort at the near post from a left wing free kick, and the Blues skipper claimed the corner cross as well on the stroke of half-time.
HT 2-0
After Akolbire’s first half booking, his second bookable offence produced another, 10 minutes after the break for a clumsy foul on the edge of the area, and the visitors were reduced to 10. Farmer fired the free kick over the bar, but the Pics found a third goal seven minutes later, with Oseni netting his second, with a low finish across goal from a left wing through ball, Harry Beadle intercepted a left wing cross for a corner, Aiden Harvey headed it clear and Maher fired wide through a crowd from the edge of the box. Gio McGregor picked out Fraser Alexander with a left wing cut back, but he sliced his first-time shot past the near post. Kane Crichlow dragged the ball wide with a low shot from the left side of the box, before substitute Joey Butlin netted his first goal for Rushall, from a left wing cross he curled into the right side netting with Stortford unable to clear. Maher saw red for his second red in injury time at the end of the game, but the Blues failed to make anything from the free kick.
