ArmInfo. There is a trend towards a decrease in the flow of words of hatred and disinformation on Armenian television channels, Chairman of the RA Commission on Television and Radio Tigran Hakobyan stated this on April 26 at a
meeting of the RA National Assembly Committee on Science, Education,
Culture, Diaspora Youth and Sport.
According to him, this trend persisted for quite a long period of
time, however, the results of monitoring carried out by the
Commission indicate a decrease in hate speech and disinformation. At
the same time, these negative manifestations were transferred to
social networks, the regulation of which is no longer within the
competence of the Commission. To solve this problem, as Hakobyan
emphasized, it is necessary to use international experience,
including European directives.
Hakobyan said that at the end of last year, 64 proceedings were
initiated against television and radio companies that violated the
requirements of the law, 57 of which were initiated by the
Commission, and 7 based on administrative complaints. As an example,
he cited data for the period from 2011 to 2018, during which only 11
proceedings were initiated. At the same time, as of the end of 2023,
19 legal proceedings have been initiated against the decisions of the
Commission, compared to 3 for the above-mentioned period of time.
