ArmInfo. Azerbaijani Kamil Zeynalli, accused of the brutal murder by beheading of an elderly
Armenian resident of Artsakh during the 44-day war, received a solemn welcome in Baku as a national hero. Jean-Christophe Buisson, deputy director of Le Figaro magazine, wrote in his account on Twitter (X).
"Briefly arrested in Moscow, Kamil Zeynalli was greeted as a hero at
the Baku airport, where local TV, on Aliyev's orders, rushed to
interview him. This Azerbaijani is accused of beheading an elderly
Armenian man during the 2020 Artsakh war," Busson noted.
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, when asked
to comment on the incident with the Azerbaijani killer, noted that he
would not want to go into the details of what happened. "I don't
want to touch on this in more detail, because collegial discussions
should take place regarding this issue, including between law
enforcement officers and our partners. Let's not rush, when there is
an official reaction, then we will talk," he said.
As ArmInfo previously reported, on the evening of February 20,
Russian law enforcement officers detained Azerbaijani national Kamil
Zeynalli, at Moscow Domodedovo Airport. The latter killed civilians
of Artsakh on camera during the 44-day war of 2020. Called for
violence against Armenians. The most sensational was the video where
he kills a defenseless Artsakh old man like a sacrificial lamb. On
the same day, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responded to the
situation and reported that the issue of the detention of Kamil
Zeynalli at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow was under the control of the
Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia.
The Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that on the afternoon
of February 21, they received an official letter from Russia about
the arrest of Kamil Zeinali, an Azerbaijani who was put on the
international wanted list by Armenia on charges of crimes against
humanity.
"On the afternoon of February 21, the unit that initiated the search
was informed by an official letter from the Russian Federation about
the arrest of the wanted person, with a request to confirm the fact
of the search. In response, the unit that initiated the search
immediately confirmed that the person in question is under
international search and that the preventive measure should be
detention. Despite the information about the release of the wanted
person, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia
has prepared a package of documents provided for in the extradition
protocol, which will be transferred to the Prosecutor General's
Office of the Republic of Armenia for transferring them to Russian
law enforcement agencies and carrying out the necessary actions for
extradition," the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia said.
On the evening of February 21, it became known that Kamil Zeynalli
was released and left for Azerbaijan, where the killer was greeted,
according to tradition, as a national hero.
Notably, another Azerbaijani murderer, Ramil Safarov, who hacked to
death with an ax the sleeping Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan at a
NATO training camp in Budapest on February 19, 2004, was welcomed in
Baku on a slightly larger scale in August 2012.
