Heading to Glastonbury? Find out what your festival hat says about you
Of the many Glastonbury style clichés - I’ll spare you the details - headwear has long been the biggest headache.
Notably, because at a five-day festival which takes place in its own microclimate (only the Amazon is wetter), a hat is essential if you want to make it through without hypothermia, sun damage or the prospect of your friends jibbing you about your dogdy Glasto-induced dreadlocks for the rest of your life.
But what does your festival hat say about you?
1. The normcore cap
You needed a hat for practical reasons but lacked the courage required to work it into anything resembling “a look”. The cap is the seasoned Glastonbury goers’ headpiece of choice because it does what it says on the tin.

2. The straw boater
You’re into most long flowy things except, of course, your unwashed hair — which is a nightmare you cannot escape. On Saturday you’ll give up on the hat once you tire of the advances of fellow festival-goers, whose favourite pastime is to borrow your titfer, and embrace a topknot.

3. The floral headband
We get it. You’re a cool, boho babe who bough her entire festival wardrobe by shopping in the “what to wear to a festival” section of your favourite e-tailer - aside from the headband which cost you a month’s salary. You’ll spend the whole weekend at the Pyramid and four hours applying make-up each day.

4. The bucket
For anyone still thinking the Nineties belong to those who were there to witness them, the rise in popularity of this hat with millenial festival attendees will be a blow. This Ian Brown classic is now the property of a new skater generation who are much cooler and better put together than you ever were.

5. The structured cap
Not to be mistaken for a snap-back cap, a similar style strictly for the under-25s, this is the hat favoured by DJs and ageing ravers — mostly because it keeps their heads warm and covers up the telltale bald patch. You were here in ’97. They don’t need to know that.
