‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ Finally Gets an Official Soundtrack (Report)

Who’s up for a “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” soundtrack? Anyone, anyone?

Three decades after the release of John Hughes‘ school-cutting classic, plans are finally in the works to release an official soundtrack to the film, Consequence of Sound reports.

The soundtrack, a collaboration between La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures, has no confirmed track listing yet, but it could go on sale as early as September.

The film, starring Matthew Broderick, features numerous songs, including “Oh Yeah” by Yello, “Twist and Shout” by the Beatles and “Danke Schoen” by Wayne Newton. However, late writer-director Hughes objected to releasing a soundtrack, saying that the songs would not make for a cohesive soundtrack.

“A&M was very angry with me over that; they begged me to put one out, but I thought, ‘Who’d want all of these songs?’ I mean, would kids want ‘Danke Schoen’ and ‘Oh Yeah’ on the same record? They probably already had ‘Twist and Shout,’ or their parents did, and to put all of those together with the more contemporary stuff, like the [English] Beat — I just didn’t think anybody would like it,” Hughes said in an interview with Lollipop.

However, Hughes did release a limited-edition 7-inch single, containing two songs from the film, which he distributed via his fan mailing list.
