Young, Gay, and Palestinian
The documentary Oriented follows three gay Palestinian men living in Tel Aviv, Israel. In this excerpt from the film, one of them, Naeem, writes a letter coming out to his family. Another, Fadi, confesses that he feels guilty for falling in love with an Israeli soldier who rejects the fact that there is an occupation. “I’m in love with the enemy,” he says to a friend in the clip. “When I love someone who doesn’t think that my people underwent a catastrophe...how can I love someone like that?” Above all, the film is an exploration of identity—and specifically, what it means to be Palestinian and queer, in spaces that often will not accept both. More information can be found on the film’s website, and it is currently available on iTunes.
