Environment Minister discusses COP17 arrangements with his Norwegian counterparts

During his visit to Norway, the Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevaosyan held working meetings with his Norwegian counterparts to discuss the country's preparatory processes for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will take place in Yerevan from October 18 to 30, 2026.
According to the ministry's press service, during the visit, the parties discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation between the countries in environmental protection, biodiversity, and climate policy. They also talked about mechanisms for adapting to climate change, biodiversity management, climate diplomacy, and opportunities for sectoral financing
Recall, on 20 October 2023, the Government of Norway made a voluntary contribution of NOK 32,000,000 (approximately EUR 2,769,000) to support the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia for 2023-2026. In September 2025, during a visit to New York, Armenian Environment Minister Hambardzum Matevaosyan signed a memorandum of cooperation with Norwegian Minister of Environment and Climate Andreas Eriksen. With the document, Armenia and Norway laid the foundation for the implementation of practical plans and the deepening of the partnership between the two countries. On 13 April 2026, Armenia and Norway discussed opportunities for cooperation within the framework of Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, which regulates cooperation in international carbon markets.
