Senate Calls NAFDAC DG To Order
Following a petition from Esther Amuta against the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration (NAFDAC) for alleged gross injustice, the Senate on Thursday, December 10, mandated the agency to appoint Esther Amuta as head/deputy director food safety and applied nutrition department.
In a report of the committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public petitions presented by Samuel Anyanwu the Senate requested that no punitive measure should be taken against her on account of her petition over her struggle for justice.
The red chambers also observed that Amuta has been a pioneer staff of NAFDAC with over 29 years experience.

Matthew Uroghide of Edo south senatorial district while giving his contributions said that hierarchy and experience supersedes ones course of study in the civil service.
He said: “The civil service rule is sacrosanct and cannot be over looked, this is an issue of corruption. We all know what happens in NAFDAC especially those of us who are pharmacist.”

Bukola Saraki, the Senate president commended the committee for its efforts in the matter.
Meanwhile, two bills were passed second reading. They include a bill for an act to repeal section 56-69 of the police act CAP 359 LFN 2004, to enact the traffic warden services and other related matters, 2015 and an act to amend the counterfeit and fake drugs and unwholesome processed foods.
Naij.com recalls that on Wednesday November 4, Enyinnaya Abaribe representing Abia south senatorial district had presented a petition on behalf of Amuta against NAFDAC for alleged gross injustice .
However, NAFDAC appointed a junior deputy director when Amuta a more experienced deputy director was available.
