Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Petty Officer Third Class (PO3) Jean Paul Tolin bagged the top spot of the Gunner’s Mate “A” School Class 03-2022 of the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Training Center.
Tolin, a native of Dumaguete is assigned to the Coast Guard Fleet aboard BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301), garnered a course final grade of 97.1 percent during the final days of the three-month training n Yorktown, Virginia, U.S.A which started in July this year.
A Gunner’s Mate is commonly responsible for the proper use of the ship’s firearms. There were tasked with the operation and maintenance of missile launch systems, underwater explosive weapons, gun mounts, and other ordnance equipment.
Gunner’s Mate is reliable in the lead gun shoot at firing ranges out to sea.
Under the Gunner’s Mate Course, trainees are into hands-on ordnance equipment and specialties in technical educational tools, such as self-study computer-based training (CBT).
Tolin bested 16 other USCG students that include two other PCG personnel, PO3 Mark Decleto and Seaman First Class (SN1) Dwayne Vinarao
The three-month-long course provided the students with the knowledge and skills concerning the operations and maintenance of small arms and ordinances, as well as administrative and logistical processes regarding requisition, reporting, and storage.
