However, “based on the objective assessment of the current Covid-19 Pandemic situation, as well as its impact on the Philippine economy,” DepEd announced the deferment of the Philippines’ hosting of this year’s international school sports competition participated by the ASEAN School Sports Council (ASSC) member-countries.
Currently, DepEd noted that the “Philippines is experiencing another surge in Covid-19 cases with the detection of a significant number of Omicron BA.5 subvariant” by the Department of Health (DOH).
“Moreover, the impact of the Covid- 19 pandemic on the country’s economy has affected the capability to host the international school sports event,” DepEd added.
Following this announcement, DepEd said that the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the different technical working committees constituted for the hosting of the 12th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG) were also retracted.
“Further, all scheduled activities leading to the 12th ASG are suspended,” DepEd said.
Moreover, DepEd noted that all related issuances inconsistent with this latest memorandum are “repealed, rescinded, and modified” accordingly.
