However, with the new SUVs not making their debut before 2024, Mahindra is ready to reveal the XUV400 electric SUV in the second week of September. The launch is expected to take place in January 2023 which is well before the XUV.e8 is launched at the end of 2024. The XUV400 will be the first long-range EV of Mahindra. The electric SUV has already been spotted on multiple occasions.

In terms of design, the car will share similar design elements with the XUV300 electric concept displayed at the Auto Expo 2020. Based on the I.C.E powered XUV300 SUV, the XUV400 electric will not be a compact SUV. Instead, it will be more of a mid-size SUV like Creta in terms of size. Dimension-wise, it is expected to be 200 mm longer compared to the Tata Nexon. The XUV400 will compete against the likes of Tata Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max, and MG ZS EV.
This first electric SUV of Mahindra is expected to come in different battery sizes and will offer fast charging option as well. The claimed range of this SUV is expected to be above 400 km to give tough competition to the current E-SUVs in the market. The powertrain will be handled by a single motor and two-wheel-drive setup. Although the company has not revealed any other information about the specification or the price range, we can expect it to start with a price tag of less than ₹15 lakh (ex. showroom). The introductory price will match the criteria of the government to make the car eligible for the Union government’s FAME-II scheme for subsidies and other incentives.
Entering the EV game, Mahindra has set a full future plan to dominate the EV industry with its Electric SUV lineup. The XUV400 will be out next year and will open the way for other Mahindra E-SUVs followed by the next launch of XUV.e8 which will be the E-version of much loved XUV700. The other EVs are set to make their debut one by one starting in 2024. The EVs are based on Mahindra’s new INGLO EV platform using Volkswagen’s MEB platform components. The platform offers class-leading safety standards, exhilarating performance, excellent range and efficiency, exemplary driving dynamics, versatility, and intelligent Human Interface.
