Novak Djokovic Wins Year-End Title, Gives Media Chocolate

Tennis Now’s Blair Henley talks Novak Djokovic’s amazing win over Roger Federer in London. Also learn what survival advice Bear Grylls gave Andy Murray (hint: we hear it involves a rabbit trap).

While Novak Djokovic was out dominating the tennis would, we were busy compiling the latest and greatest stories from around the tennis world.

Yes, Novak Djokovic lived up to his Number 1 billing with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Roger Federer taking his second ATP World Tour Finals title. Djokovic netted $1.76 million for his efforts -- not bad at all.

And he just happened to charm the media along the way, hand-delivering chocolates to the journalists in the press room after his semifinal win over Juan Martin del Potro. Needless to say, they loved it. The Djoker arrived for that particular press conference a half hour late because of some extra treatment he received in the training room. He explained it this way:

"I needed to be fresh and ready for a press conference, as you guys always can be very challenging."

Djokovic has no doubt been impressive this week, but the Bryan Brothers? Not so much. The Bros failed to make it to the year-end final for the first time in five years, to which we say, winning gold medals and setting every doubles record known to man must really sap your energy.

Last week, Andy Murray posted a picture of his meeting with Bear Grylls of Man vs. Wild fame. We hear Grylls gave him some tips to survive Roger Federer’s cross court forehand -- apparently it had something to do with catching Fed in a homemade rabbit trap -- but after watching Murray’s 7-6, 6-2 loss to the Swiss, it would seem the lesson was sadly unsuccessful. But, of course, there’s no reason for Murray to be feeling down. He’s had an amazing year, complete with a gold medal and his first Grand Slam title.

His assessment? “If you told me last year that I would be sitting in this position now with the results I’ve had in the last 12 months, I would have signed up for that straight away.”

And Maria Sharapova was in India this weekend promoting her collaboration with the U.K.-based construction company Homestead. The French Open champ was reportedly paid millions to lend her name to a project southwest of New Delhi. And why not? Who wouldn’t love to say they live in the Sharapova.

And that’s all for today’s Tennis Now News Update! Are you happy Djokovic won it all in London? Let us know in the comment section below or on Facebook and Twitter. We’ll see you next time, here on Tennis Now.
