Far Far West is a surprise hit on Steam, but its players have one demand: A yeehaw button

Steam's latest indie breakout success is Far Far West, a co-op robot cowboy shooter that climbed to the top of Steam's top seller list after its early access launch earlier this week. The first FPS project of French studio Evil Raptor, Far Far West racked up an impressive 250,000 sales in its first 48 hours, attracting so many players that it tripped its network provider's anti-DDoS protections.

At time of writing, it's sitting at an admirable Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam after 9,000 reviews, where players are saying it's like "if you put Deep Rock Galactic and Helldivers in a blender" and calling it "unequivocally one of the best co-op shooters on the market." However, those freshly-minted robot sheriffs have narrowed in on the glaring omission of one crucial feature: A yeehaw button.

As anyone who's spent any amount of time with Deep Rock Galactic is undoubtedly already aware, one of its greatest joys is its dedicated salute button, which—when pressed—allows the player to bellow an echoing "ROCK AND STONE" in an outcry of space dwarven exuberance. Survive a thrilling bug horde? Salute button. Complete an objective? Salute button. Standing in the hub waiting for your friend to finish tinkering with their dwarf loadout? Salute button. Repeatedly.

It's a one-button solution for camaraderie, comedic excess, and existential catharsis. But unthinkably, despite sharing so much of Deep Rock's DNA, Far Far West hit early access without a method for its cowboys to partake in the vocal traditions of their honored trade. The robot gunslingers must yeehaw—and yet they have no voice.

In a thread titled "The game needs a yeehaw button like nothing else," one commenter on the growing Far Far West subreddit insists that addressing the oversight is "literally the #1 feedback I have and it's not even close." Meanwhile, Far Far West's official Discord server is awash in similar sentiments, with one player saying "as soon as I loaded in for the first time my immediate thought was 'why no yeehaw button.'"

Thankfully, Evil Raptor seems aware that this is a wrong that needs righting. In the Discord server's 'player ideas' channel, a moderator has started a thread to collect suggestions for "what could be used as a chant in game." While player submissions range from "to the West" to "better lead than undead," I think simplicity's the best option here: Rather than a handful of quippy catchphrases, I'd rather have a dozen distinct yeehaw's. It's only right.
