Freezing rain leads to travel issues across Missouri
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Freezing rain, freezing drizzle and snow created slick roads, traffic headaches and numerous accidents around Missouri on Saturday.
The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings and watches for parts of several states, including southeast Missouri, as severe storms capable of producing tornadoes passed through the area.
The light coating turned roads and highways into ice, causing hundreds of accidents, Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman Al Nothum said.
Some commuters reported being in their cars for more than four hours, and some schools kept kids for hours after the closing bell because buses couldn't travel on the slick roads.
