Funsch’s ‘Spectacle’ at ODC
Under the artistic direction of Christy Funsch, the company’s latest, “Le Grand Spectacle de l’Effort et de l’Artifice”(translation: the big show of effort and artifice), will be performed this weekend at ODC Theater.
“Spectacle” focuses on pageantry, beginning “with extravagant trumpet fanfare and vigorous dancing before being overtaken by simplicity and understatement,” according to a statement.
A central tenet of the work is intimacy between women and a dismantling of what Funsch sees as the cliche of men lifting women, and big lifting little.
