Melaye saga: Uproar as Saraki ‘bribes’ Oluremi Tinubu

Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has come under fire for reshuffling the leaderships of the Senate’s committees on Thursday, July 21, 2016.

The reshuffling by Saraki has Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who has been at logger heads with Senator Dino Melaye over the latter’s threat to impregnate her, named chairperson of the committee on environment.

Senator Tinubu had recently petitioned the Senate president and the chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) John Odigie Oyegun claiming that her colleague threatened to rape her.

She asked the Senate to discipline Senator Melaye following the misunderstanding, which erupted between them last Tuesday, July 12.

But it appears the feud between Melaye and Mrs Tinubu may be a thing of the past following the juicy positions given her and some selected members of the Senate.

However, Saraki has been accused by some Nigerians of bribing Senators with positions to maneuver his way from his court battles with the Code of Conduct tribunal (CCT) and his alleged forgery case with the with the federal government.

They claim the reshuffling of the leadership of the Senate’s committees by Saraki is a calculated plot by the Senate president to hold on to power by all means possible.

Read some comments on the issue below:

Babatunde Ibirogba: “This man is just wasting his time over thier, do u think nigerian hv trust in d senate ? we know u are enemy of change, thievesssssssssssss.”

Austin Emy: “Senate President the game changer! This dude is too smart for APC. He’s a cat with nine lives and Maradona of Nigeria/Nigerian politics. “Nothing do you”. I salute your courage and steadfastness. Saraki for 2019.”

Prince Adedeinde Adefarakan: “Incredble. But let’s see how far Saraki can go. But certainly, he must defend hiself in court his criminal act of alleged forgery. Shikena.”

Omotayo Rotimi: “Yes indeed, the change we laboured and voted for has finally landed like an Eagle safely on the floor of the senate with all these appointments of senate committee chairman today. Voice of reasonings seems to be prevailing on Saraki to do the right thing and the needful by given members of APC in the senate their rightful place in the chamber.”

Meanwhile, Senator Bukola Saraki has reacted to the report that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

There has been speculation that Saraki might leave the APC following series of charges brought against him particularly the alleged forgery of the Senate standing rule.

There were reports on some media (not Naij.com) that the Senate president met with former president, Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Wednesday, July 20 during a closed door meeting where he declared his readiness to dump the APC and re-join the PDP.

However, in a statement issued by Bamikole Omishore who is the special assistant on media to Saraki, he denied the rumour and insisted Saraki was committed to the APC.
