Manchester United to announce Jose Mourinho as their new manager ‘early next week’ – Saturday’s transfer gossip
Jose Mourinho will be announced as Manchester United’s new manager ‘early next week’ according to BBC Sport.
The former Chelsea manager has been out of work since his departure from Stamford Bridge last December, and has been heavily linked with the Old Trafford post ever since, in a move that would see him go toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola once again following the ex-Barcelona man's arrival at Manchester City.
It is believed that, having failed to secure Champions League football for next season, a meeting was held between club officials and the United boss Louis van Gaal from which it was decided a change of manager would be made.
It has been reported elsewhere that the Dutchman could yet take on the role of director of football and work alongside Mourinho.
Van Gaal come under intense scrutiny in recent months, with his style of football failing to win over the Old Trafford faithful.
The Dutchman has, however, guided the club to its silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement 2013 by winning this season’s FA Cup.
"This is fantastic to win the title for the club and for the fans,” he told the BBC. “And for me because now I have won the cup in four countries and not many managers can say that, so I am very happy.
"We played Tuesday evening also and we have deserved it I think."
