Garagiste Wine Festival features renegade wineries
The Garagiste Wine Festival, launched in Paso Robles in 2011, is finally getting some northern exposure as it uncorks its first event in Oakland.
Named after the American “garagiste” wine movement — a term first used in the Bordeaux region of France to criticize small-lot winemakers working in their garages, who were considered renegades for “breaking the rules” of traditional winemaking — the festival is expected to feature more than 20 varietals poured by 32 artisan wineries from Northern California and Central California.
