Nigerians may have been fed up with the incessant industrial actions by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) which takes centre stage anytime they are aggrieved over an issue.
This was evident in a poll conducted by our correspondent, where it was gathered that the NLC’s proposed indefinite action, which has since been stopped by the national industrial court, was berated by a vast majority of the populace.
The planned demonstration was designed to protest against the federal government’s removal of fuel subsidy which the unionists believe is too much for the masses.
They are asking the federal government to revert to the old price of N86.50/litre as against the new fuel pump price of N145/litre.
And despite the fact that entreaties by the federal government for the union workers to sheathe their swords fell on deaf ears, Nigerians believe that industrial actions rarely help resolve the issues for which they are staged.
During a Facebook Livestream, some of our respondents reacted negatively to the proposed industrial action, stating that previous strike actions did not yield any positive result. The respondents however, counseled the federal government to find a lasting solution to the country’s present challenges.
On the social media, especially on Twitter, Nigerians have also expressed their total dissatisfaction towards the proposed industrial action.
Using the hashtag #NoToNLCStrike, Nigerians asked the NLC to shelve any form of strike on the present issue as it is not likely to produce anything meaningful.
