Why the Lonely Island tortured interviewers for months with fake Jimmy Fallon quotes

If you are a Lonely Island interview completist — and, judging by the group's YouTube comments, some of you are — you may have noticed they’ve been talking about Jimmy Fallon a lot during the press tour for their forthcoming movie Popstar. Like, a lot.

And when they stopped by The Tonight Show Monday night, they explained why.

As a game to keep up their morale during their press tour, the group decided to work Fallon’s name into every interview they gave as much as possible, so they could unveil the whole thing on Fallon’s show as a grand finale.

"It’s like Jimmy Fallon always says," Andy Samberg told one interviewer, "if you think it, put it in the show."

"You know what Jimmy Fallon always says," Jorma Taccone told a politely nodding woman, "truth is stranger than not-truth."
