There will be no more grazing and rearing of cattle at night in Enugu state, according to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and leaders of Fulani/Shuwa Arab herdsmen in the state.
This decision was reached after a peace committee meeting made up of representatives of the various interest groups from the Fulani/ Shuwa Arab Community and representatives and security agencies, among other stakeholders in the state, Vanguard reports.
At the meeting, carrying of firearms or any form of ammunition by the herdsmen and movement of cattle from one location to another at night in the state has henceforth been banned.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Ugwuanyi disclosed that compensation would be paid by herdsmen whose cattle destroyed farm crops while the communities would pay for any cattle killed by their members.
According to him, violators of these resolutions would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Ugwanyi had convened the meeting in furtherance of on-going efforts by the state government to find lasting solutions to the lingering clashes between Fulani herdsmen and their host communities, especially in the wake of the recent Nimbo killings.

Ukpabi Nimbo community, Uzo-Uwani local government area, on Monday, April 25, became a red spot on the world map when rampaging Fulani herdsmen struck, killing scores of villagers, mostly farmers, and destroyed properties worth millions of naira in the process.
Sources in the area had put the casualty figure at 40, although the police were yet to give a definite figure.
