Stewart involved in 3-car wreck at start of NASCAR practice
Tony Stewart took his first serious hit since his return from a back injury in a fiery three-car wreck during practice Friday at Delaware’s Dover International Speedway that also involved Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Danica Patrick.
Stewart, who will retire at the end of this season, missed the first eight races of the season with a fractured vertebra suffered in a January all-terrain vehicle accident.
On the track at Dover, Kevin Harvick won the pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race after rain wiped out qualifying because he posted the fastest lap of 165.145 mph in that practice. ...
Indy Car Series’ hottest driver, Simon Pagenaud, claimed the the pole for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis with a fast lap of 1 minute, 8.6868 seconds on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Pagenaud has two straight pole wins and will try to reach victory lane for the third straight time Saturday.
