The Latest: Edwards signs Orleans schools bill
Gov. John Bel Edwards has signed legislation that will place more than 50 public schools in New Orleans back under the supervision of the Orleans Parish School Board as early as 2018.
Members of the 13-member committee formed to help guide the transition of more than 50 state-controlled public schools back into the fold of the New Orleans school board have been announced.
Orleans Parish Schools Superintendent Henderson Lewis and state Recovery School District Patrick Dobard assembled the panel named Thursday and will serve as members.
State and local education officials in New Orleans are set to discuss recently passed legislation that will return control of more than 50 public schools back to the local school board.
