Lorraine Kelly interview: TV queen launches her first home collection
Queen of daytime television Lorraine Kelly has launched her first homeware collection.
Lorraine for JD Williams is centred around two key trends, Coast to Glen and Coastal Mist.
Each style takes inspiration from Lorraine’s Scottish heritage and includes bed linens, lighting, soft furnishings and home accessories for the living room, bedroom and bathroom.
“I already have a women’s fashion range and this collaboration came out of that but I have been very interested in interiors for a long time,” she tells me. “If you came around my house for a cup of tea this is how it would look. There is a little bit of a Scottish theme without it being shortbread tin.”
She sums the style up as comfortable, stylish and a bit cheeky: “A home has to be comfortable. I don’t like going into people’s places that are like show houses, when you are sitting on the edge of the sofa with a glass of wine worrying you are going to spill it. If you spill wine in my house we just mop it up and get on with our lives.”
Starting at a very reasonably priced £6, the items will blend in nicely with different schemes.
A grey, taupe and plum colour palette accentuates natural tones for the Coast to Glen range while blues, yellows, and crisp whites evoke the shore in Coastal Mist.
Look out for the signature Scottie dog which pops up on cushions, door stoppers and draught excluders. Scottish inspired fabrics offer a personal touch. “I wanted plaid and tartan without being over the top. It reflects where I from without feeling like I am going to burst into Flower of Scotland, not that there is anything wrong with that,” she says.
A firm believer that you can never have too many animal prints, a duck cushion is one of Lorraine’s favourites. It makes a lovely match for the Herringbone. Lighting also looks the part. Antique-inspired bronze lanterns and photo frames introduce striking textures and the concrete lamp is very on trend.
