Steve Kerr affirms support in Cal’s Cuonzo Martin
Martin has come under scrutiny since a report by The Chronicle last week raised questions about whether Martin knew about a female reporter’s allegations against assistant coach Yann Hufnagel two months before the university launched an investigation of Hufnagel, who was fired March 14.
According to university policy, Martin had an obligation to promptly forward any report of sexual misconduct.
The Bears’ first-round loss to Hawaii in the NCAA Tournament probably made Martin, who has yet to sign a formal contract with Cal, a less promising candidate for coaching vacancies.
Kerr attended Cal’s Senior Night win over USC, in which he watched Nick hit the family trademark: a three-pointer.
Shortly after his father’s tweet Wednesday, Nick tweeted his own message of support for Martin: Anyone who truly knows coach Martin would never question his integrity.
Chronicle staff writer Rusty Simmons contributed to this report.
