QB Zach Kline rejoins Cal football team
Quarterback Zach Kline, who was with the Bears for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, has walked on to the program.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound senior will need to graduate from Cal in May and enroll in graduate school, head coach Sonny Dykes said, to be eligible for fall camp.
“I will continue to train with private quarterback and strength coaches in the Bay Area … hoping to fulfill my dream of being a starting quarterback at a college football program,” he tweeted at the time.
Athlon had him as the nation’s No. 9 overall prospect coming out of San Ramon Valley High School in Danville, where he threw for 3,630 yards and 36 touchdowns as a senior.
Kline came off the bench in six games to complete 43 of 82 passes for 443 yards and three touchdowns with four interceptions.
Kline, true freshman Max Gilliam, redshirt freshman Ross Bowers, sophomore Chase Forrest and junior Luke Rubenzer will open spring practice Monday splitting reps.
