High winds slow repairs after rocks fall on Colorado highway
(AP) — High winds slowed repair work Thursday along a busy stretch of Interstate 70 in western Colorado that was heavily damaged by a rock slide earlier this week, the state Department of Transportation said.
Earlier, she had said the re-opening could be Thursday, but that was pushed back in part because high winds made it impossible to use helicopters to ferry equipment to workers perched 1,200 feet above the roadway.
The workers are dislodging loose rock in preparation for extensive repairs to the road and taking steps to decrease the risk of more slides.
