Twitter unveils new timeline feature ahead of earnings report
Though Twitter aims to make the feature a default setting in coming weeks, users will be able to opt out and revert to the company’s traditional reverse chronological timeline.
Twitter hasn’t outlined the factors that determine which tweets the company will push out to its users in the new feature — a lack of transparency that has inspired mistrust among some users.
In its Wednesday announcement, Twitter’s senior engineering manager Mike Jahr said they will be a sample of the “most important tweets from the people you follow.”
The change comes the morning of Twitter’s quarterly earnings call, during which investors will look to CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey to reveal a plan that addresses Twitter’s stagnating user numbers and recent executive departures.
