Ferry service suspended between Hatteras, Ocracoke islands
OCRACOKE, N.C. (AP) — High water and sand have caused officials to close a portion of N.C. Highway 12 on Ocracoke Island and also to suspend ferry service to and from Hatteras Island.
N.C. Department of Transportation officials say the highway is closed for three miles from the ferry terminal and heading south toward the village because water and sand cover N.C. 12 near the terminal that serves Ocracoke and Hatteras islands.
