RAMALLAH, West Bank - A spokesman says 40,000 Palestinian teachers suspended a three-week-old strike after President Mahmoud Abbas promised to increase their salaries next year.

The strike had been accompanied by some of the largest protests against the cash-strapped Palestinian self-rule government in the West Bank in recent years, as well as crackdowns on demonstrators by Palestinian security forces. Human rights groups have said the Palestinian leader has adopted increasingly authoritarian methods to suppress dissent, as his popularity is slipping.

Louisiana is home to the people who tweet derogatory slurs with the highest frequency in the country, according to a new analysis from online apartment-finder Abodo.

Searching from a list of pejorative terms for women and black, Latino, LGBTQ, overweight, and intellectually disabled people, Abodo found and mapped millions of tweets published from June 2014 to December 2015.
