Kazakhstan to protect energy facilities from drones
Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan plans to strengthen the protection of fuel and energy facilities against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov said at a government meeting.
How facilities will be protected
According to the minister, physical protection measures will include the detection and suppression of drones.
This area will be combined with cybersecurity tasks within the ACR Center, which is being created as an advanced research center for the “cyber-physical resilience of the fuel and energy sector.”
“First, cybersecurity: identifying threats, protecting technological systems and training specialists to respond to cyberattacks. Second, physical protection of facilities, including the detection and suppression of unmanned aerial vehicles,” Akkenzhenov said.

He also said that by the end of the year, authorities plan to approve a register of priority AI solutions, target architectures for digital twins and an architecture for cyber-physical security.
It was previously reported in September 2025 that Astana was seeking funding to protect thermal power plants from drones. On May 22, 2025, the anti-terrorism commission decided to purchase anti-drone systems, but the source of funding had not been determined. According to previously announced figures, one anti-drone system costs around 20 million tenge. Depending on the size of a thermal power plant, between two and eight such systems may be required.
