Tengrinews.kz - The United Arab Emirates has extradited three Kazakh citizens who were on an international wanted list. They are suspected of fraud, robbery, hooliganism and other crimes, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to official information, one of those extradited is suspected of fraud. In 2019–2020, together with an accomplice, he allegedly promised to help a victim obtain a land plot for the construction of an international center in Astana. In this way, they allegedly obtained a total of $368,000 from him.
Another suspect was wanted on suspicion of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, robbery and hooliganism. According to investigators, in 2021 in Almaty, he and his accomplices attacked a man, seriously injured him and stole personal property worth more than 100,000 tenge.
The third suspect, according to investigators, stole $24,200 from a Chinese citizen in Astana this summer. The amount is classified as especially large.
After allegedly committing the crimes, all three went into hiding from law enforcement authorities and were placed on the international wanted list. They were later located in the UAE.
At the request of Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office, the suspects were extradited to Kazakhstan. All three have now been placed in a pre-trial detention facility, and the investigations have resumed.
The Prosecutor General’s Office noted that the extradition was the result of agreements reached during a visit by a Kazakh delegation to the UAE.
Earlier, a delegation from Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office headed by Deputy Prosecutor General Askhat Zhumagali took part in the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, held in the UAE. During the visit, meetings were held with the UAE Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, where the parties discussed cooperation in combating crime and the extradition of wanted individuals.
