“New faces have emerged, interesting ideas have appeared” — Tokayev on Kurultai election
Tengrinews.kz — The election campaign in Kazakhstan has shown that new faces and ideas have emerged on the public agenda. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said this in an address to the people of Kazakhstan, according to Akorda.
Tokayev said young people, representatives of professional communities and entrepreneurs had become actively involved in public debate.
“The election campaign showed that the country’s public agenda has changed, with the ideas of creation and progress firmly taking center stage. New faces have emerged and interesting ideas have appeared. This is an important sign of political renewal and the awakening of our nation’s passionate energy,” the President said.
He noted that the shift in the public agenda was the result of reforms aimed at raising political culture and expanding citizens’ participation in governing the country.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev added that Kazakhstan is building a state in which the key principles are “Law and Order,” effective governance, respect for the will of citizens and protection of their rights.

As a reminder, on August 23 Kazakhstan will elect a new Parliament — the unicameral Kurultai. These will be the first parliamentary elections following the constitutional reform: the Senate and Mazhilis were abolished, and a 145-seat Kurultai was created in place of the bicameral Parliament.
Seven parties are competing for seats in the new legislative body. The Adilet party has nominated the largest number of candidates — 186. It is followed by Auyl with 69, Respublica with 76, the People’s Party of Kazakhstan with 72, Ak Zhol with 63, Baitak with 47 and the Nationwide Social Democratic Party with 33 candidates.
After the election, the former parliamentary structure will be fully replaced by the new unicameral system.
