August 30 - working day or day off? What changed in 2026

Constitution Day used to be celebrated on this date, but the situation changed after the state holiday was moved. Why August 30 is no longer a day off
A reader contacted our editorial WhatsApp number asking why Kazakhstanis will not have a day off on August 30 in 2026.
“Constitution Day used to be celebrated on this date. Why is August 30 now a working day?” the reader asked.
Constitution Day was previously celebrated on August 30 — the date in 1995 when the country’s Constitution was adopted in a nationwide referendum. It had the status of a state holiday and was an official day off.
Starting in 2026, Constitution Day is celebrated on March 15. As a result, August 30 is no longer a public holiday and there will be no additional day off on that date.
How many days off will there be in August 2026
There are no additional public holidays in August 2026.
Under a five-day working week, Kazakhstanis will have 10 days off and 21 working days.
Under a six-day working week, there will be 5 days off and 26 working days.
What dates will be marked in August
Several commemorative and professional dates will be observed in Kazakhstan in August:
first Sunday of August — Railway Workers’ Day;
August 10 — Abai Day;second Sunday of August — Builders’ Day;third Sunday of August — Sports Day;
August 18 — Border Guards’ Day;
August 29 — Day of the Closure of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site;last Sunday of August — Miners’ Day.
Although these dates are not official days off, thematic events, concerts, exhibitions and celebrations are traditionally held across the country to mark some of them.
