National Bank to issue new 1,000 tenge coin

Tengrinews.kz — The National Bank of Kazakhstan will issue a collectible coin dedicated to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, not everyone will be able to purchase it, as the mintage will be limited to just 2,000 pieces.
The National Bank’s press service announced that starting May 5, collectible silver coins “FIFA World Cup 2026” from the “Sport” series will go on sale.
The coins are made of 925 sterling silver with gilding, using color printing technology, weighing 20 grams, with a diameter of 37 millimeters, in “proof” quality, and with a face value of 1,000 tenge.
On the reverse side of the coin, the upper part features the flags of Canada, the United States, and Mexico — the countries hosting the final stage of the tournament. In the center, there is an image of the globe with continents and the inscription “FIFA WORLD CUP 26 TM.” The lower part depicts the FIFA World Cup trophy, with silhouettes of football players on both sides against the background of a football pattern.


The mintage for the domestic market of Kazakhstan is 1,500 pieces, and for the international market — 500 pieces.
It is specified that the coins are legal tender across the country at their nominal value for all types of payments, as well as for crediting bank accounts, transfers, exchange, and conversion in all banks of Kazakhstan.
FIFA World Cup 2026
The largest international football tournament will be held in 2026 across three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
This will be the first World Cup to feature 48 national teams. It will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with the final planned to be held in the United States.
