Teenage girl woke up in a coffin during a farewell ceremony

Tengrinews.kz — In Guatemala, a 17-year-old girl woke up inside a coffin during her own wake. The incident occurred in the village of El Jocote in the municipality of Sacapulas, in Guatemala’s Quiché Department, according to TV channel Knal 4.

“While I was crying over her coffin, we opened the small window in the lid. She started moving, waking up, and suddenly sat up,” the girl’s mother, Lesbia de Rios, told journalists from the TV Sac project.

According to the father, a local pastor, his daughter lost consciousness at home in the morning, after which he decided to take her to hospital. On the way, he noticed that she had stopped breathing and that he could no longer feel a pulse in her arms. Believing she had died, he contacted a funeral home and arranged for her body to be taken back to the village. The girl never actually reached the hospital.
Back in the village, the father and his daughter’s body were met by relatives, friends, church members and an assistant to the local elder. The coffin was carried into the house and placed where the wake was to be held, after which the girl regained consciousness.

Yuleydi Ixchotoyac herself told journalists that before losing consciousness, she felt severe pain and heaviness in her chest. When she came to, she learned what had happened from her father.
The girl’s father described the incident as a miracle and urged young people to turn to God, believe in Him, pray every day and give thanks.
