Not everyone succeeded - President spoke about young ministers who worked in the government
Tengrinews.kz — Elections for the Kurultai, Kazakhstan's new unicameral Parliament, are taking place today, August 23. Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev cast his ballot in the elections and subsequently held a press briefing, citing the Akorda press service.
Among those questioning the President was Dilnaz Yerlanova, a correspondent for the Jibek Joly TV channel.
"As Head of State, you place great hope in our youth and consistently support the younger generation. Many of the candidates for the Kurultai are young professionals who are successful in various fields. In your opinion, can the youth provide a new impetus to the work of the Kurultai?" she asked.
The President responded by emphasizing the importance of believing in the younger generation.
"We place our trust in young representatives, appointing them to various positions. Of course, I cannot claim that every young person who has held a high government office has proven themselves effectively. They face various obstacles and circumstances in their work. Nevertheless, we must believe in the youth and entrust them with appropriate responsibility," Tokayev noted.
The Head of State also reminded the audience that, demographically, Kazakhstan is a young nation.
"That is why we have such high hopes for the youth. The representatives of the new generation must realize this themselves. Because it must be admitted that some young personnel appointed as ministers or serving in the government failed to meet the tasks assigned to them. We must not allow this to happen in the future," he added.
Kazakhstan elects new Parliament
On Sunday, August 23, Kazakhstan is holding elections for deputies of the unicameral Parliament—the Kurultai. These are the tenth parliamentary elections in the country since 1991, and the first since the adoption of the new Constitution, which saw the Mazhilis and Senate cease operations and their deputies disbanded.
The Kurultai will now replace the bicameral Parliament as Kazakhstan's new legislative body. It will consist of 145 deputies elected for five-year terms. Following the elections, the deputies will approve the Chairman of the Kurultai and three deputy chairs.
Seven parties are competing for the 145 seats in the Kurultai: "Adilet," "Auyl," "Ak Zhol," JSDP, "Baytaq," People's Party of Kazakhstan (NPK), and Respublica. The ballot also includes an "Against All" option.
