Broke a door at a police station, tore signs off a mosque: Kazakhs reminded of punishment for vandalism

Tengrinews.kz — The Astana Prosecutor's Office has reminded Kazakhstanis of the legal liability for acts of vandalism.

Since the beginning of the year, 94 people in the capital have been punished for the intentional destruction or damage of property. Of these, 67 violators were placed under administrative arrest, while 27 others were fined. The total amount of fines issued has exceeded 5 million tenge.

Prosecutors cited several examples of punishment for vandalism. For instance, an Astana resident was sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest after breaking the glass of a police station entrance door while intoxicated on June 4. The damage was estimated at 90,000 tenge.

In another case, a 38-year-old resident of the capital tore down signs from the Sheikh Kunta Haji Mosque, ripped them up, and threw them away. He was sentenced to 15 days of arrest.

Another incident occurred on May 20, when a 20-year-old resident of the capital intentionally damaged a boom barrier. The court imposed an administrative fine of 50 MRP (approximately 216,250 tenge).

The Prosecutor's Office reminded the public that the intentional destruction or damage of property carries administrative liability. According to Article 147-1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, violators face up to 30 days of administrative arrest or a fine of up to 60 MRP (approximately 259,500 tenge).
