Internet down in homes on Astana's left bank - what happened
Tengrinews.kz — Residents of Astana's left bank are reporting widespread outages of internet and home phone services provided by Kazakhtelecom. The company has identified the cause of the disruption.
Status of the outage
The Tengrinews.kz editorial office has received numerous reports from Astana residents living in various residential complexes.
Citizens note that entire buildings and entrances have lost network access, while the provider's call center has become extremely difficult to reach.
"Almost the entire left bank served by Kazakhtelecom is down. It's an emergency," readers write.
"Internet is completely gone in the 11th entrance. It looks like a cable was snagged during excavation work at the entrance. The entire complex is without service," one resident shared.
Kazakhtelecom explains the cause of the failure
Kazakhtelecom confirmed the service disruption, stating that a "third-party organization" damaged the company's cables.
"On the afternoon of July 21, at the intersection of Almaty and Akmeshit streets (near 12 Sauran Street), a third-party limited liability partnership damaged 25 fiber-optic cables of various capacities within the ATS-40 exchange area while performing horizontal directional drilling," Kazakhtelecom reported.
The company stated that emergency crews are currently on-site. Due to the extensive damage and the complexity of the repairs, service will be restored in stages.

Full restoration for all subscribers is planned by 11:00 PM.
Kazakhtelecom noted that such incidents occur regularly, especially during the summer. Cables are most frequently damaged during excavation and construction work. According to the company, contractors often begin drilling or laying utilities without coordinating the work or verifying the location of communication lines.
Previously, we reported that poor mobile signal and internet can be caused by uncertified signal boosters (repeaters). According to the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry, such devices interfere with base stations. As a result, connection quality can deteriorate not only for the owners of these devices but also for their neighbors.
