Daniele Buzzonetti wrote an excellent book about the story of Giotto Bizzarrini (Bizzarrini – The last romantic builder edited by Daniele Buzzonetti, preface by Giampaolo Dallara and Mauro Forghieri, Artioli Editore 1899).

Giotto also participated as a protagonist in the birth of Picchio in 1989.
As a matter of fact in the book, on page. 49 in response to the interviewer asking
“You then made a car called Picchio… Yes, but only the prototype.
Who commissioned it? An industrialist from Ascoli Piceno, it was a sports car, a berlinetta. I gave him the prototype.”
On page 209 under the heading “The Giotto school is useful” you can read “At the end of the 1990s, Bizzarrini put his name behind the newly formed car manufacturer Picchio, which later became an important benchmark in the field of racing cars, road car prototypes and research in general. For the company from Ancarano (Teramo), Bizzarrini designed the prototype of a racing coupé, with a carbon fibre and stoel chassis, fibreglass bodywork and a 192 hp 2.0 Lancia 16V engine, which he himself tested on the Magione circuit in 1991. The photos with the car (weight, 725 kg) refer to that day, which was historic for Picchio, while in the photo on the right, Giotto can be seen together with the engineer Francesco Di Pietrantonio, founder of the brand and current managing director. With that support, Bizzarini, still considered the “putative father” of Picchio, brought about the construction of the first of the racing grototypes. winning in italy and abroad.”
Living and working side by side with Giotto was an unforgettable experience for me.
