‘I support Tottenham’ – Alex Scott says it was extra sweet to score winner vs Arsenal

Alex Scott has spoken about why his winning goal against Arsenal on Saturday was particularly sweet given his Tottenham past.

Tottenham Hotspur are in a crisis, and excluding their Europa League triumph last May, this has been the case for the best part of two seasons.

Therefore, while Arsenal’s recent failings cannot compensate for the pain Spurs fans are feeling, it is nice to watch the Gunners implode.

Mikel Arteta and his team met their match against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final and have since suffered defeats to Southampton and Bournemouth, respectively.

Arsenal’s most recent defeat has had massive implications on the Premier League title race, and it was inflicted on them by a player who was all too happy to sink Tottenham’s bitter rivals.

Alex Scott reveals his Tottenham dream

The Cherries were triumphant on Saturday thanks to Alex Scott, who silenced the Emirates Stadium with a goal in the 74th minute.

For the 22-year-old, this was a huge moment and one he dreamed of as a child, as he grew up supporting Spurs.

Scott told the Mirror: “Yes, I support Tottenham, though that doesn’t have much to do with today. But growing up as a kid, it was definitely a dream for me [to score against Arsenal].

“Bournemouth are my team at the minute but I was a Tottenham fan growing up, so as a kid growing up, I would have been really happy with that.”

Spurs have previously been linked with Scott

Ahead of the January transfer window, Tottenham were interested in Scott as a potential signing further into the future.

The midfielder, who received his first England call-up last year, would likely be interested in a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, this would only be on the basis that Spurs remain in the Premier League, which is no guarantee with how things are looking.

It might be that a move to North London is not in Scott’s future, but at least he has given his fellow Tottenham fans a reason to smile after another largely disappointing weekend.
