A Mexican judge has ruled that the plane involved in the 2018 crash in Cuba suffered from severe maintenance failures and should never have flown. The crash killed 112 people. Court documents viewed by The Associated Press reveal an independent expert determined the crash was an “institutional accident” due to maintenance negligence. The judge ordered Mexican charter Aerolíneas Damojh to pay $1.5 million in damages to each of the families of the four crew members who sued. The Boeing 737 crashed after departing Havana’s José Martí International Airport. Only one person survived the crash.
