A man charged in the 2024 shooting death of a New York City police officer has been acquitted of murder but convicted of aggravated manslaughter and other crimes. A Queens jury delivered its verdict Wednesday in the case of Guy Rivera. He was charged with killing Officer Jonathan Diller during a traffic stop. The case briefly became a focal point during President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign to reclaim the White House on a message of “law and order.” Prosecutors said Rivera pulled out a concealed handgun and intentionally shot Diller. But Rivera’s lawyer argued the gun accidentally discharged as officers pulled the firearm from Rivera’s pocket.
