Brazil’s finance minister Fernando Haddad has resigned to launch a bid for São Paulo governor. On Friday, the official gazette confirmed his exit. A day earlier, Haddad said he is running and framed the bid as a fight to win. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva named Dario Carnevalli Durigan, the ministry’s executive secretary, as Haddad's replacement. Analysts say the race can raise Haddad’s national profile, even if he loses. Lula also warns that Brazil’s politics look “very grave.” Durigan now faces pressure from war-driven energy shocks and new fuel measures.
